Two die following SUV vs. motorcycle crash on Lake Murray Blvd.

Two people died in a collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle on Lake Murray Boulevard Sunday night. The motorcycle passenger passed away at the hospital on Monday morning. According to Irmo Police Chief Joe Nates, the crash happened around 6:15 p.m. near the entrance to the Hillcreek subdivision, which is between Irmo Drive and Nursery Road. The driver of the SUV was not injured. Nates said the driver of the motorcycle died at the scene.

Fisher said Joy was driving his motorcycle, with Barwick as a passenger, just after 6 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Murray Boulevard and Weeping Cherry Lane in Irmo when it collided with a black SUV.

Motorcycle accidents are more likely to end in serious injuries or death for the motorcyclist, since the rider is not protected from the force of a collision.
