Collision with log truck leaves 1 dead

A collision involving a log truck and a van left one person dead Monday, according to the Highway Patrol. 

SC Highway Patrol investigating fatal wreck in Union County

Authorities have identified a man pronounced dead in two-vehicle collision in Union County Monday.

The accident happened at about 12:45 p.m. on SC 215 (Santuc Carlisle Highway), troopers said. South Carolina Highway Patrol said a log truck was traveling north when a Chevrolet van headed south driven by Donald C. Saylor of Newberry crossed the centerline. The truck attempted to avoid the collision by swerving, but the van hit the truck's trailer. The van driver was trapped inside the vehicle and prounounced dead at the scene.  The truck driver, James Douglas Alexander Jr., 45, of Rock Hill, wasn't injured.
