Passenger killed in crash on SPID access road
Corpus Christi police say the 39-year-old driver's name is not being released as he's still being treated for his injuries. Investigators traced the path of damage from the eastbound off-ramp at Weber where the suspect's Toyota hit a sign before slamming into a Nissan and finally a highway support column. The 41-year-old passenger in the Toyota died at the scene. The woman behind the wheel of the other car suffered minor injuries.

Witnesses told police the Toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the back of a Nissan passenger car in the left lane on the SPID access road at the Weber Road exit. The Toyota also hit the exit sign, and the Nissan went into the intersection at SPID and Weber Road, the release states. The 37-year-old driver of the Nissan suffered minor injuries, and the driver of the Toyota was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial for treatment, the release states. Investigators believe alcohol may be a contributing factor in the crash.
