Stevie Ray Hergert, 16, killed in ATV crash on CR 1114 in Newton County near Brookeland, Texas

NEWTON COUNTY -- A 16-year-old Nederland girl was killed early Saturday after the ATV she was driving flipped in Newton County, The Texas Department of Public Safety said. DPS says the driver of the ATV, Stevie Ray Hergert, was ejected from the ATV and died of head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Brenda Smith. The crash happened around 3 a.m. on CR 1114 at the intersection of CR 115 in Newton County. This location is about 10 miles northwest of Brookeland.
