The Utah Highway Patrol said Wednesday that troopers continued to investigate the Tuesday afternoon accident in Logan Canyon. However, motorists told UHP that the area of the Logan Canyon road where Gordon Larson’s Buick LeSabre went out of control, near Temple Fork Road, was slippery at the time of the 4:20 p.m. crash.

Larson, who was heading down the canyon about 15 miles east of Logan, plunged down an embankment into the river, landing upside down.

Passers-by jumped into the river to rescue Larson, but he was already dead.

Royce said the cause of death — whether a possible medical event, the impact of the crash or perhaps drowning — was still undetermined.
