A Millcreek man involved in a collision on Interstate 15 died after he got out of his car to check on the other driver and was hit by a passing vehicle, the Utah Highway Patrol says.

Utah Highway Patrol trooper, Sgt. Richard Nielson says the area is known to be dangerous for motorist, "I don't' know if it's the merging off of 90th or people trying to get off on 72 around I-215 around this bend. I don't know what the deal is, but we have a large volume of crashes in this area all the time."
The fatal crash victim was identified as Don Smith, 72. Smith was driving a Chevy Silverado that crashed with an Acura about 9:25 p.m. Friday on northbound I-15. He was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross the highway. Smith was transported to Intermountain Medical Center, where he died.
