Police officer crashes her cruiser into two vehicles after suffering a medical emergency in Newport News, Virginia

A Newport News police officer suffered a medical emergency while on duty Thursday afternoon, causing the police cruiser she was driving to travel across Denbigh Boulevard, striking two civilian vehicles. Just after 12 p.m., the officer was driving through the parking lot of the McDonald’s at 417 Denbigh Boulevard when she struck the front left bumper of a 2007 silver Ford Mustang, according to Harold Eley with the NNPD. The police cruiser continued onto Denbigh Boulevard, striking a 1998 gold Chrysler minivan and crossing all lanes before jumping a curb, striking a utility pole and coming to rest in front of Cash Converters at 14346 Warwick Boulevard. Eley said the officer was in and out of consciousness and transported to a nearby hospital. Currently, investigators believe some sort of medical emergency contributed to the crash. The Mustang driver was not injured and his vehicle received minor damage. The minivan driver was “reportedly shaken” and transported to a hospital for observation, Eley said. Her infant daughter, who was also in the minivan, was not injured.
