A 46-year-old Newport News woman was rushed to a local hospital Wednesday morning after being hit by a vehicle in the Denbigh section of the city.

A 46-year-old Newport News woman was rushed to a local hospital Wednesday morning after being hit by a vehicle in the Denbigh section of the city.

Police were dispatched at about 6:55 a.m. to the intersection of Richneck Road and Denbigh Boulevard where they found the woman lying in the roadway, a Newport News Police Department spokeswoman said in an email. The woman had no visible signs of injury, but told police she had abdominal pain, police said.

The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

An investigation revealed a 41-year-old York County man in a silver 4-door Toyota was at the intersection waiting to turn right onto Denbigh Boulevard, McPherson said. The man saw a woman walking, but when traffic was clear he began to turn right. When he turned the woman was in front of his vehicle, and he hit her, police said.

Police issued the man a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian, police said.
