Maryland State Police said they were investigating a fatal accident Wednesday morning in Prince George’s County, as officials throughout the area warned drivers to slow down because of icy road conditions caused when Tuesday night’s snow melted and freezing temperatures made roads slick. The fatal accident occurred around 5 a.m. on the westbound side of Route 214 and St. Michaels Drive in Kettering, where police responded to a report of an overturned 1994 Dodge pick-up truck on the road. The driver, an adult male, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. In initial reports, police said the truck “traveled off the roadway and the left two tires went into the median.” The truck then struck a manhole cover, causing it to overturn. The truck slid 100 feet before coming to a stop in the road.
