The Ford box truck continued onto the on ramp and overturned, said VSP. The driver of the Ford box truck, 66-year-old Paul E. Sharpless, suffered minor injuries and refused treatment. He was charged with reckless driving. Ward was transported to Southern VA Regional Medical Center where he later died of his injuries. VSP said alcohol did not play a factor in the crash.
Willie A. Ward, 40, a truck driver, died Monday after pulling over on Interstate 95 to inspect his truck. The incident occured around 1:20 a.m. on October 13 when the driver of a Ford box truck, Paul E. Sharpless, 66, swerved off the road and hit Ward while he got out of his truck. The box truck overturned on the on ramp. Sharpless sustained minor injuries and refused treatment. Ward was taken to Southern VA Regional Medical center, where he died. Sharpless was charged with reckless driving.
