Witnesses say the driver killed in a single-vehicle accident in Springfield may have been racing another car at the time. Brian Benjamin Blaine, 30, of Manassas was driving his 2001 Honda S2000 convertible southbound on Franconia-Springfield Parkway just after 11 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control while exiting a curve. Witnesses told police Blaine appeared to be racing a dark colored Infiniti before the crash. Blaine's vehicle struck an embankment and a tree before the vehicle rolled over and came to a rest upright in the southbound lanes. Police say Blaine's Honda and the Infiniti did not appear to make contact at any time. Blaine was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. While speed was a factor in the crash, it is still unknown whether alcohol may have contributed.
