A Brush Prairie woman died Monday night after accidentally being run over by a runaway truck that her boyfriend was trying to stop.

A 43-year-old Brush Prairie woman was killed Monday night after she was run over by a runaway pickup truck that her boyfriend was trying to stop, police said.

According to the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office, Barbra Delgrosso was standing on the flatbed of a broken-down pickup, tossing firewood into another pickup about 8 p.m. on a Pandora Road property outside of Woodland. Her boyfriend, Jered Pickner, 28, and another friend, Todd Lemon, were helping, police said.

Lemon asked Pickner to move the working pickup closer to the disabled truck, police said. But as Pickner drove the truck closer, the pickup's brakes failed and the truck collided with the disabled truck that Delgrosso was in, police said.

The impact sent the disabled truck down the hill and Delgrosso either fell or jumped out, police said. Pickner then jumped out of the working truck, but failed to stop it as he thought he had, police said. The working truck then also started rolling downhill, striking Pickner with its open door, before he was able to jump back in, police said.

After bringing the runaway truck to a full stop, he got out and saw his girlfriend on the ground underneath the pickup he had been driving, police said. He was able to get her into the truck and drive to Woodland for help, police said. She was alive and telling him to calm down because she was going to be OK, according to the police report.

They met up with an ambulance at Green Mountain Road and Shirley-Gordan Road, police said, but Delgrosso died in the ambulance.

An autopsy found that Delgrosso died of blunt force trauma to the head and chest, said Cowlitz County chief deputy coroner Brett Dundas. The death was ruled accidental.

Police are continuing to investigate and say there are no signs that drugs or alcohol played a role in Delgrosso's death. They do not believe foul play was involved.

Barb was a close friend of mine and her death has come as a complete shock. Barb loved being in the woods and cutting firewood. It kept her in shape she use to say. Barb and I had many adventures and a hell of alot of laughs together, and at times drove eachother crazy. But we always loved eachother. I am very sad about her dealth and will miss her greatly, but will someday see her again in a better place for more adventures. She was a loving mom and her kids ment the world to her. My sympathy and love go out to them and the rest of her family and to Jared. She would wasnt you all to live life to its fullest as she did and be happy . That will make her happy in heaven to know everyones okay. Remember she isnt gone, but in a way better place and that shes watching over all of of you and loves you all very much. I will miss you more than you could ever know my friend. My life was better for knowing you.
