The Bellingham Police Department is looking for a hit-and-run driver who left an 18-year-old with serious injuries Friday night.

"Who would just do that?" said O'Brien, a freshman at Western Washington University. "We could have been killed. Were they just going to drive off, thinking that we were dead?"

Mackenzie O’Brien, 18, was crossing Otis Street in Bellingham with a group of friends at about 11 p.m. Friday. That’s when she says a car – with no headlights — came out of the fog and hit her and a friend, fellow WWU student Justine Phillipson.

Mackenzie O'Brien and Justine Phillipson got off a bus in Bellingham, Washington and were crossing Otis Street when a car with no headlights came out of the fog and hit them. O'Brien's arm was nearly severed and she can no longer move her fingers.
