Lance David dies in bicycle collision with semi truck at South Hanford Street and East Marginal Way South in Seattle on May 1

Friends and co-workers on Friday held a memorial bicycle ride for Lance David, a cyclist who was killed in an accident in Seattle on Wednesday.

Lance David, 54, has been identified as the bicyclist who died Wednesday in a collision with a truck in south Seattle, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office reported today. The cause of death was a head injury.

Lance David of Federal Way died Wednesday morning after being hit by a semi truck in South Seattle.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that a 53-year-old man driving a flatbed semi-truck was attempting a right turn from westbound South Hanford Street to northbound East Marginal Way South.

At the same time David, a 54-year-old bicyclist, was northbound on East Marginal Way South approaching South Hanford Street.

The industrial crossing where a Seattle bicyclist died Wednesday has been dreaded for years by riders who know how easily a tragedy can happen.

Bicyclists position themselves different ways in the hectic street while short-haul truckers make turns to pick up their first loads of the morning.

Seattle police said a 54-year-old man was riding a black road bike north on East Marginal Way South about 7 a.m. Wednesday when he hit the left side of the trailer of a truck that was turning right from South Hanford Street onto Marginal.
