Medical examiner identifies victim in fatal accident

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man killed in a Wednesday accident near the Sprague Avenue on-ramp to westbound Interstate 90.

Pedestrian hit and killed following accident

One person was killed at 8 a.m. today after a two-car crash near the Sprague Avenue on-ramp to Interstate 90 westbound.

Matthew J. Miller, 30, died of blunt head injury, a news release from the medical examiner said. Miller was walking across Third Avenue talking on his cellphone after his car was hit by a van. He was hit and killed by a vehicle not involved in the initial accident, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office reported. The incident began when a van allegedly made an improper turn across the median from the Sprague on-ramp onto Third Avenue and hit a car driven by Miller. Miller then walked north across Third to talk to the driver of the van. When Miller was walking back across Third to his car, he was hit by another vehicle traveling west on Third. The driver of that vehicle was not injured and was not cited for any infractions, a news release from the sheriff’s office said. The driver of the van in the initial collision was cited for an improper turn.

What money damages are recoverable in a death claim?

Every death from an accident is tragic. When a death is the result of someone else’s negligence, certain survivors may make a wrongful death claim against those responsible. Close relatives may recover monetary damages for the loss of financial support, as well as for medical, funeral, and burial expenses, lost earnings, and in some cases for pain, suffering, and loss of love and affection. Learn more about auto crash claims here…
