Family grieves for man killed by hit-and-run driver

“He was a great father, a wonderful father. He loved his baby, he loved his wife," witness Victoria Crittendon said. “It's touch and go right now. They don't know what's going to happen (with the baby). He's on a breathing machine as far as we know right now.”

Police told WISN 12 News someone turned himself in Tuesday night, claiming to be the driver. 

Man confesses to fatal crash that killed Rio Washington

Lt. Mark Stanmeyer said a 21-year-old Milwaukee man confessed to driving a stolen Plymouth Breeze that was involved in the crash at 18th Street and Atkinson Avenue.

The crash occurred on 18th Street and Atkinson Avenue Saturday night when a hit-and-run driver ran through a stop sign and struck a vehicle carrying Rio Devone Washington, 26, his wife, and their 10-month-old son. Washington was killed, and his wife sustained unknown injuries. Their baby, a 10-month-old, is in critical condition. Video showed a Plymouth Breeze in flames at the scene of the wreck, and the driver fled on foot. Check back for new details.
