Semi-Truck Brakes Fail, Causing Fatal Crash in Wisconsin(link is external)
A semi-truck driver said his brakes failed and he went through a stop sign, causing a crash that killed a 49-year-old Wisconsin man.
Ronald Jay Ebert, 55, of St. Paul was driving a semi-truck southbound on Highway E at about noon when he came to the intersection with Highway 48 in McKinley Township. Ebert said that he braked for the intersection, but a mechanical problem caused the brakes to fail, and he hit a 2004 Chevrolet pickup that was westbound on Highway 48. Allan Seierstad of Cumberland, Wisconsin, was driving, and Ricky Gauthier of Radisson, Wisconsin, was his passenger. The collision caused both vehicles to go off the road into the southwest ditch. Both Seierstad and Gauthier had to be extricated from the pickup. Seierstad was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital for his injuries, and Gauthier was sent to Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin, where he died.
