Christopher Jewsbury, 50, of Spokane, was westbound in a pickup truck about 5:15 p.m. when he crossed the centerline and sideswiped an eastbound Chevy Trailblazer driven by David Oakes, 61, of Olympia, according to the ISP. Jewsbury then crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by Amy Brady, of Newport, who was behind Oakes. Brady, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Jewsbury was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. He was not wearing a seat belt. The cause of the crash is being investigated, the ISP said.
A fatal three-car accident closed both directions of U.S. Highway 95 for about two hours Tuesday afternoon at the Spokane River Bridge in Coeur d’Alene. The Idaho State Police reports that Stephen L. Pedersen, 60, was driving north when he crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a car driven by Leonard G. Hammrich, 74, of Hayden Lake. Pedersen, a resident of Coeur d’Alene, was killed. Hammrich was taken to Kootenai Health for treatment of his injuries. The third vehicle involved, driven by Coeur d’Alene resident Adam Jacobson, 35, was driving north behind Pedersen.
A woman was killed this morning when her car veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle on Highway 99 in Lynnwood, police said. The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. in the 17100 block of Highway 99. Police said a woman, later identified as Jeretta C. Graham, 77, was driving south when her car veered into northbound traffic, colliding head-on with a second vehicle. The southbound driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the second driver, a woman in her 40s, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.
A Middle Tennessee man is facing charges after a crash in Florida killed another man from Tennessee. A car collided with a scooter Sunday night in Panama City Beach. The man on the scooter, 22-year-old Brandon Beverly, of Knoxville, was killed. The driver of the car, 18-year-old Bruce George, of Nolensville, was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter. Police aren't saying whether the two knew each other, but additional charges against George are pending.
Oregon State Police are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 82 near Hermiston early Friday involving a wrong-way driver. About 1:30 a.m., a Hermiston woman, later identified as Alicia G. Breckheimer 31, was headed west in her 2005 Cadillac CTS in the eastbound lanes of I-82 smashed nearly head-on into a 2006 Chrysler 300 driven by a 66-year old man from Ione. The Cadillac ended up in the center median and the Chrysler stopped on the eastbound shoulder. The man, later identified as Robert Henry Baker, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
