A baby girl was killed in a fiery crash on a Westchester highway Tuesday morning when the vehicle she was in, driven by her father, slammed into a tree, police say. The 24-year-old father appeared to be speeding alongside another car on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers when he veered from the right lane across two lanes of traffic, went up an embankment and struck the tree shortly before 11:30 a.m., just south of the Jackson Avenue exit, Yonkers and state police said.

A driver involved in a hit-and-run accident that critically injured two children in another vehicle last month in Chandler has pleaded not guilty in the case. Maricopa County prosecutors say 43-year-old Nathan Joseph Painter entered his plea Monday. His next scheduled court appearance is Jan. 14. Chandler police arrested Painter on suspicion of aggravated assault, endangerment and hit-and-run charges in the Oct. 26 crash. Authorities say Painter apparently lost control of his pickup truck, ran off a road and collided with the rear of a car on another road. The car rolled twice.

New Orleans police arrested a 44-year-old man Saturday evening for his alleged involvement in a multiple car pile-up that sent a 29-year-old woman and her 2-year-old nephew falling off the Interstate 10 high rise bridge in eastern New Orleans a week ago. Police booked Ervin Freeman into Central Lockup around 9 p.m. with two counts of manslaughter and one count of felony hit-and-run.

The New Orleans Police Department says it's close to making an arrest in Sunday's deadly hit-and-run accident on the Interstate 10 Highrise. Police say it happened shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday. Danielle Rhone, 29, and her nephew, 2-year-old Kaedan Body, both died. According to police, the car Rhone was driving stalled near the top of the Highrise due to mechanical problems.

Six elementary-age children were taken to a hospital as a precaution, after a semi-tractor trailer truck hit a school bus in southwest suburban Stickney on Friday. Stickney police said the call about the crash came in around 7:20 a.m., after a semi and a school bus collided at Pershing Road and Central Avenue. Six students who were on the bus were taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, but a hospital representative said the children seemed to be fine. She said all of the students appeared to be elementary school age, and were deaf, but she did not know what school they attend.

A rollover crash Thursday evening on eastbound Interstate 84 killed a 9-year-old girl and sent six other people to nearby hospitals. Four of those hospitalized after the crash were children. One of them, a 7-year-old, was taken by helicopter. The driver somehow lost control of the vehicle around 7:30 p.m., on a section of the freeway near Troutdale airport, said a spokesperson for the Troutdale Police Department. The SUV rolled and ended up on its roof in the grassy median between the eastbound and westbound lanes.

A city spokesman says five children rescued from a car that veered off a highway ramp in suburban Minneapolis and landed in a holding pond were unresponsive when they were pulled from the water. City spokesman Jamie Zwilling was on the scene of the accident Thursday morning in St. Louis Park at Highways 7 and 100. Zwilling says the mother of the children made it out of the car when it landed in the water but that the children were in the submerged car for about 20 minutes.

A fiery car crash on Interstate 270 injured three people this morning. The crash happened at about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, near Highway 40 (Interstate 64). Two lanes of northbound I-270, before Highway 40, were closed while police investigated the crash. Town and Country Police Lt. Steve Nelke said it was a one-vehicle crash and the vehicle did catch fire. He did not provide any details about rescue efforts. Three occupants, including the driver, were taken to a hospital, Nelke said. He did not have information on the severity of the injuries.

A 12-year-old girl who was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Hallandale Beach last week has died of her injuries, police said Monday. Shania Jackson died Sunday as a result of the injuries she suffered in the Nov. 18 incident, Hallandale Beach Police said. According to police, witnesses said Jackson was crossing the road in the 600 block of Forester Road when a car swerved toward her. Jackson was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The driver hasn't been found. Police said they are pursuing leads in the case and are requesting assistance from the public.

Israel Thornton, age 5, was running to catch a school bus to attend Village Prep School when he crossed Denison Avenue and was struck and fatally injured by a 2012 Kia Sorrento. Thornton was taken to a local medical center where he died. The vehicle's driver, 25-year-old Jerome Lee, fled and failed to stop and offer aid to the boy. Lee will be sentenced on March 5th where he will recieve as many as three years in prison.
