The motorist who was pronounced dead after his car hit a freeway pillar Wednesday along Highway 50 has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office.

He was identified as David Paul Johnson, 45, of Sacramento.

Johnson was traveling westbound on Highway 50 near the 26th Street offramp about 6:20 a.m. when his car left the road and struck the concrete overpass pillar, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash trapped Johnson inside his car. He was declared dead at the scene.

Two Virginia drivers were charged with DUI after their vehicles crashed near Tall Cedars Parkway and Loudoun County Parkway Wednesday morning.

Loudoun County police heard the crash around 2 a.m. Wednesday. They located the first vehicle traveling north on Loudoun County Parkway with damage to the front, and charged the driver, 41-year-old Karin J. Keswani of Aldie, Va., with DUI, police said.

Police posted a lookout for the second vehicle and located Michael R. Johnson, 34, of Stone Ridge, Va., who was charged with DUI and hit-and-run.

A wild ride ended in a big crash in Phoenix on Wednesday night.

A Phoenix police spokesmen said a man in an older model SUV was driving recklessly about 9:15 p.m. in the West Valley when he crashed into several parked cars and just kept going, blowing through traffic lights at speeds witnesses said reached at least 100 mph.

Then, at Seventh and Southern avenues, he sideswiped a car with two women inside, nearly sending the car into a wall.

The string of events finally ended when he slammed his truck into a vacant house nearby.

A major road in San Jose fully re-opened this morning after police wrapped up their investigation of a fatal accident.

A man was hit and killed as he walked near the intersection of Almaden Expressway and Foxworthy Avenue around 9 last night. One lane of the expressway was closed most of the night. Police say the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with them.

A tractor-trailer driver was lucky to be alive after a steel beam strapped to his rig suddenly broke free and smashed through his cab while on an Oregon road.

Jack Phillips said he was driving his 18-wheeler down Southwest Nyberg Road in Tualatin when a dump truck cut him off near Interstate 5 about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

But when Phillips slammed the brakes, a load of rain-slicked steel beams on his trailer shifted forward.

A driver who police said was under the influence lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a gas station with people inside in Hamilton.

Police were sent to the 2100 block of Pleasant Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

The man hit in the crash has been identified as Dorlin Breedlove, 56, of Hamilton.

Dorlin was on his way home and went to the Circle K to pick up cigarettes when he was hit.

Dorlin was taken to a hospital in Kettering.

John Breedlove said there are no broken bones, no internal bleeding and it's a miracle his brother is alive.

A 19-year-old Milton woman was killed in a traffic accident on State Highway 59 between Milton and Whitewater Wednesday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Whitewater Police Department and Whitewater and Janesville Fire/EMS were dispatched at 12:48 p.m. for a traffic accident with injuries at on Highway 59 near East Gould Road.

A crash on Cypress Gardens Boulevard involving a minivan and two motorcycles left one man dead and two injured.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says around 3:45 p.m., Frederick Gengler, 72, tried to turn left onto Lake Bess Road at the same time that two motorcycles were going to the same location.

Investigators say Gengler tried to speed up while the motorcycles tried to avoid a collision. One motorcycle, driven by Mark Bradley, 21, avoided the collision, but the bike slid out from underneath him.

Police responded to a rollover crash involving a 72-year-old woman in Branford this afternoon.

According to police, 59-year-old Luke Rodney, of Branford, drove through the intersection of Elm and Kirkham streets around 1:15 p.m. and collided with a car driven by 72-year-old Margaret Calamita, of North Branford, who was traveling north on Kirkham Street.

Rodney's car flipped, crashing into a nearby fence.

Police said no serious injuries were reported. Kirkham Street was shut down for about 45 minutes while authorities investigated.

A collision between two vehicles led to one of the vehicles striking and killing a woman near at North Water and West Lemon streets in Lancaster earlier Wednesday, according to police.

The deadly chain reaction was set off just before 12:37 p.m. when a 1996 Ford E250 driven by 50-year-old Lancaster resident Thomas Hogge collided with a 1998 Cadillac Seville driven by Harold White, 81, of Lancaster, according to a city police press release. White was southbound on Water at Lemon Street and Hogge was driving west on Lemon at the time, police said.
