According to a press release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Whitewater Police Department and Whitewater and Janesville Fire/EMS were dispatched at 12:48 p.m. for a traffic accident with injuries at on Highway 59 near East Gould Road.

Emergency personnel found a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, driven by 19-year-old female, in the roadway after being struck by a 2005 Ford Econo-line Van driven by a 56-year-old male from Whitewater on the passenger side of the vehicle, the release said. The 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The Rock County Coroner's Office identified her as Teagan Kathleen-Jee Nolan.

The male was transported by Flight for Life to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville and is in serious condition. A 63-year-old male in the passenger seat of the van was transported by Whitewater EMS to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center with minor injuries.

The release said the Rock County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team was called to investigate the accident. It found the Lumina was traveling eastbound on Highway 59 and was negotiating the curve at East Gould Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and began to slide into the east ditch.

“As the driver attempted to steer out of the ditch, the vehicle spun counterclockwise and entered the westbound lane of traffic and was struck on the passenger side by the Econo-line van, which was traveling westbound,” the release said.

The release added the 19-year-old female was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident and that speed and road conditions appear to be a factor in the accident.
Highway 59 was closed to traffic for approximately four hours as deputies investigated the accident and cleared the scene.
