A man riding a moped died after he was struck by a Marion County deputy in Mullins Wednesday morning, confirmed county Coroner Jerry Richardson. The victim has been identified as 68-year-old Kenneth Killingsworth, according to Coroner Richardson. The accident happened at about 11:38 a.m. on Gapway Street near U.S. 76, in south Mullins, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner's office. Gapway Street was shut down Wednesday afternoon while authorities were at the incident. The Florence County Sheriff's Office is investigating, Coroner Richardson confirmed.
Police say they have a 30-year-old man in custody in a fatal crash Sunday night in East St. Louis. Helen Bush, 86, of East St. Louis, was killed in the crash about 7 p.m. at 17th Street and Bond Avenue, police say. Another woman, Teenette Dae, 72, of East St. Louis, was critically injured and was being treated at St. Louis University Hospital. Bush and Dae were in a 2013 Nissan at the intersection when a man driving a black Monte Carlo east on Bond struck their vehicle, said East St. Louis Assistant Chief R.O. Ike. Ike said the man was driving recklessly.
A California man was killed in an early morning crash on Interstate 20 in Mitchell County early Thursday morning. The accident happened about 5 miles west of Westbrook. According to the DPS, 79-year-old Robert Beaufort Case of Homeland, California was driving the wrong way in the westbound lane of the interstate when his car was struck head-on by an 18-wheeler traveling west. Case died at the scene. The truck driver was treated and released from Mitchell County Hospital.
