One man died and four people were injured in a chain-reaction crash investigators believe began when a 68-year-old driver had a medical problem and passed out at the wheel, the Broward Sheriff's Office said Friday. The six-vehicle crash happened Thursday night in the eastbound lanes of Oakland Park Boulevard, the agency said. The 68-year-old driver in a Ford Explorer was westbound when he lost control of the car, jumped the median and went into oncoming traffic. The Explorer then side swiped a Honda CRV, hit a Volkswagen Jetta head-on and crashed into a PT Cruiser, which hit a Toyota Corolla. A GMC Sierra then rear-ended the Jetta. The passenger in the back seat of the Jetta was killed. Oakland Park Fire Rescue and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue took the driver and front passenger of the Jetta to Broward Health Medical Center with injuries, along with the driver of the Explorer. The driver of the PT Cruiser was taken to Florida Medical Center with injuries. No one in the CRV or the Corolla was injured. The names of those involved haven't been released.
