One person was killed in a crash involving a car and a motorcycle off of state Highway 4 in Concord Thursday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The collision happened just before 7 a.m. near the intersection of Willow Pass and Avila roads, according to the CHP.

The motorcyclist is believed to have been the person killed in the crash, CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said. The name of the victim was not yet being released.

An off-duty Oakland police officer, fire and medical crews responded to the scene, Bartlett said.

Police are investigating a fatal, high-speed crash that caused a power outage in Richmond on Tuesday night.

According to Richmond police Lt. Joey Schlemmer, at about 9:30 p.m., a woman was driving a green Ford Mustang and traveling at high speeds north on Garrard Boulevard past West Macdonald Avenue, when she lost control of her vehicle.

The Mustang then left the roadway and slid broadside into a telephone pole.

Schlemmer said the woman was the sole passenger in the vehicle, and she was pronounced dead at the scene,

Concord police were looking for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a fatal hit-and-run that happened on Sunday night. Officers responded to a report that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian in the area of Willow Pass Road near Fifth Street around 11:40 p.m., police said. A pickup truck traveling east on Willow Pass Road left the roadway, hit a pedestrian walking west on the sidewalk and fled the scene, police said. Arriving officers found the victim deceased on the roadway, according to police.

Two contractors doing maintenance work suffered burns when they were splashed with acid Monday at the Tesoro Corp. refinery near Martinez, an accident that occurred in the same processing unit where two workers were burned last month, officials said. Sulfuric acid spilled on the two workers at 10:50 a.m. in the latest incident at the Golden Eagle Refinery at 150 Solano Way, said a Contra Costa County hazardous materials specialist.

A 17-year-old Danville boy was killed in a solo car crash on state Highway 24 in Lafayette Thrusday morning, a fire captain said.

The crash occurred just after 11 a.m. on eastbound Highway 24 near the Pleasant Hill Road exit in Lafayette.

A 14-year-old girl may have been trying to retrieve her cellphone when she was fatally struck by a freight train traveling through Martinez Sunday evening. Jenna Betti, an 8th grader at nearby Martinez Junior High School, was pronounced deceased near the railroad tracks after emergency crews received a report that a female had been struck by a train near Old Orchard and Howe roads at about 5 p.m., police said. The freight train’s conductor told authorities that two people got off the tracks as the train approached but that for some reason, the girl stepped back on the tracks.

The driver of a stolen pickup was killed after crashing into power poles in Pittsburg on Thursday night and knocking out power to nearly 1,200 PG&E customers in the surrounding area, police and utility officials said. Around 11:40 p.m., residents in the 600 block of Rockspray Circle heard a vehicle starting outside their home and looked outside to see someone driving off in their truck, police said. Police said the residents tried to follow the driver in another car, but stopped after he began speeding at about 70 miles per hour on West 10th Street.

A veteran Berkeley firefighter-paramedic died when he crashed while riding a tractor off-duty near Martinez, authorities said Monday. Anthony "Tony" Nunes, 54, of Martinez was riding a tractor on family property near Bear Creek Road and Alhambra Valley Road when the vehicle went over an embankment off a fire trail, rolled 200 feet and pinned him, said Capt. Robert Marshall of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. Nunes died at the scene.

A man was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing into a car and light pole and fleeing the scene in Antioch on Friday night. Police said around 7:15 p.m., a 48-year-old man was driving near the intersection of A and West Third streets when he crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a car. After the crash the man kept driving, only coming to a stop after he hit a light pole and his car became disabled, police said. Police said he then exited the car and ran.
