A roadside memorial grew Wednesday morning on Old Statesville Road, scene of a single-vehicle wreck Tuesday that killed a 4-month-old girl.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the infant was not in a child seat and was being held by a passenger in the back seat, and they accuse the driver of speeding and DWI.

Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver involved in a collision that killed a man and injured a woman in Orange Tuesday night.
The victims were traveling in a Ford Explorer in the 1500 block of North Tustin Street around 9:40 p.m. when their sport utility vehicle collided with a Ford pickup truck, Orange Police Sgt. Bryan Meissner said.
The SUV overturned and the Ford pickup truck fled the scene.
Illinois State Police say Roger Hein, 56, crashed into a tree around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday between Stockton and Lena on Highway 20. Investigators say early reports show he may have suffered some kind of medical attack before the crash. Police are still trying to figure out what went wrong. The highway was closed for nearly ten hours.

All lanes on U.S. Route 20 between Stockton and Lena have been closed for nearly eight hours.
Enfield Police responded to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.
It happened on Route 190 by Cooper Street. Police say a car was traveling westbound when it collided with a pedestrian.
That person was taken to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Right now, that collision is under investigation by the Enfield Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
Two people were killed and several others were injured when a New Jersey Transit bus and a car collided in southern New Jersey.
Authorities say the crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. Monday in Pleasantville. It wasn't immediately known if the people killed were in the car or the bus.
The Press of Atlantic City reports the car was heading north on Franklin Boulevard when it swerved for unknown reasons and struck the bus. The car then flipped around but remained upright.
A vigil was held at Etowah High School Wednesday evening to honor a young woman killed in a car crash Tuesday night.
Lucy Boettcher, an Etowah High senior, was killed in the single-vehicle crash. Boettcher was set to graduate Friday evening.
Anthony White, Boettcher's boyfriend, survived the car accident and was amongst the many students mourning her loss at the vigil.
"She was always a bright, brilliant person, she could light up a room with her smile," said White.
Close friends who loved her joined strangers who barely knew her.
