Vigil honors HS senior killed in car accident
A vigil was held at Etowah High School Wednesday evening to honor a young woman killed in a car crash Tuesday night.
Lucy Boettcher, an Etowah High senior, was killed in the single-vehicle crash. Boettcher was set to graduate Friday evening.
Anthony White, Boettcher's boyfriend, survived the car accident and was amongst the many students mourning her loss at the vigil.
"She was always a bright, brilliant person, she could light up a room with her smile," said White.
Close friends who loved her joined strangers who barely knew her.
Darius Valcarcel, 22, died alongside Boettcher. Valcarel graduated from Etowah HS in 2010.
The wreck was on I-285 Eastbound between Chamblee-Tucker Road and Ashford-Dunwoody Road.
The accident blocked most of the Eastbound lanes of the perimeter and had traffic backed up for miles.
According to investigators, the initial reports indicate a passenger distracted the driver which caused her to lose control of the SUV.
Two other people suffered non-life threatening injuries.
