At approximately 6:39 p.m. on Monday, Ocean Township police responded to a call of an erratic driver who was traveling north on Route 9, and the officer saw a vehicle traveling north on Main Street with a person lying on the hood of the vehicle. Prior to the accident, the driver, later identified as Marcos A. Ortega, 33, of Little Egg Harbor Township, was driving north on Route 9 when he allegedly crossed into the northbound shoulder and struck the male victim, and then continued driving the vehicle for 1.5 miles before being stopped by Patrolman Flatt.

Nicholas Gomes, 20, from Parlin, has been arrested and charged with causing a crash Sunday that killed his 19-year-old passenger.  Gomes was charged with one count of death by auto in an accident on Route 9 that killed Brandon Narleski, also of Parlin, late Sunday night. Gomes was traveling south near Bordentown Avenue when the Mercedes E-420 he was driving hit the concrete highway divider shortly before 10:53 p.m. Narleski was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the crash site at 11:14 p.m. Gomes was charged with one count of death by auto.

A Honda driven by a 20-year-old Lakewood man struck a borough resident early Sunday as she was walking across Route 9 around 2:25 a.m. She was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident. The woman was taken by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where she was listed in stable condition. No charges have yet been filed.

Police found the pedestrian, a 38-year-old man from Templeton, bleeding from the head at 7:05 p.m. near 375 Belmont St. (Route 9). He was sent to UMass Memorial Medical Center — University Campus, where he was treated for life-threatening injuries. Police stated Wednesday the man was in serious but stable condition. Police said they believe the man enteredd into the road and was struck by a car, and the driver fled west on Route 9 and turned right onto Plantation Street. Witnesses described the car as a dark sedan — possibly a Honda Civic — with front-end and windshield damage.

The driver of a Toyota Camry lost control of his car on Route 9 and struck a utility pole. Tomas Q. Clark, the sole passenger in the car, was killed in the accident. The driver, a 26-year-old man from Hatfield whose name was not release, and Clark were transported by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries.

A 1998 Subaru Legacy was heading south on Route 9 in Loudoun County around 5 p.m. less than a mile north of Route 571 when it crossed over the center line and hit a northbound 2006 Chevrolet Impala head-on, according to Virginia State Police. The driver of Subaru died at the scene, police said. The victim has been identified as Shani E. Hickman, 43, of Leesburg, Virginia. The driver of the Impala was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

A Massachusetts woman and her daughter and a Florida woman were killed in a crash in western New Hampshire. State Police say 54-year-old Mary Newton of Greenfield, Massachusetts, was driving west on Route 9 in Stoddard on Saturday afternoon when her car crossed into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on with a recreational vehicle. Newton and her 16-year-old daughter were killed, as was a passenger in the RV, 68-year-old Dulce Marie Campo Perez of West Melbourne, Florida. The driver of the RV was seriously injured. The crash remains under investigation.

GHENT, N.Y. -- A 26-year-old Minnesota woman has died after she crashed her SUV after she was pulled over by sheriff's deputies in Upstate New York and then sped away.

The accident happened around 11:45 p.m. Saturday on Route 9 in the town of Ghent, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office said. A deputy pulled over an SUV that was driving in the wrong lane.

As the deputy walked toward her SUV, the sheriff's office said, the driver, Kasandra Solverson, sped away.

A 57-year-old Rhode Island man was killed in a two-car crash on Route 9 in Hadley Thursday morning.

Joseph A. Arruda, of Bristol, R.I., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred near the Shell gasoline station at 73 Russell St. about 9:40 a.m., according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

Arruda was westbound in a Mercedes sedan when his vehicle apparently crossed the double-yellow center line and struck the back driver’s side of a Honda sport utility vehicle driven by a Hadley man, according to the district attorney’s office.

Officials have identified the motorcyclist killed in a Route 9 accident Wednesday as a 26-year old Framingham man. Thomas DeWolfe, 26, was killed in a motorcycle accident on Route 9 just after 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to Police Chief Kenneth M. Paulhus. The motorcycle hit the guardrail a little east of the Route 85 north overpass. Witnesses told police that the 2008 Suzuki motorcycle went off the road after making a lane change. The bike was found a distance from the rider. Mr. DeWolfe was pronounced dead at the scene by Southboro Fire and Rescue personnel, according to Chief Paulhus.
