A man, 20, was airlifted to University Hospital after a crash that shut down the eastbound lanes of Loop 1604 on Monday before 11:30 a.m.

The man was driving a black 2006 Jaguar onto U.S. 281 Northbound from the Gold Canyon access road, according to police. He was trying to pass a tractor-trailer driven by a 26-year-old man, according to police.

A collision on Interstate 5 south of Joint Base Lewis-McChord has killed one person when a pickup truck in the northbound lanes crossed the median into the southbound lanes and hit a box truck and a semi truck. The driver of the semi truck was killed. Two people in the box truck were uninjured. A person was trapped in the pickup, and it took an hour or more to extricate him.

Westbound Interstate 40 is closed about 30 miles west of the Arizona-New Mexico line due to a truck accident Friday morning.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says travelers should expect an extended closure at Chambers and I-40′s junction with U.S. 191.

ADOT advises drivers to delay travel and to exit I-40 before reaching the closure area.

It says there are no nearby alternate routes to get around the closure. However, westbound motorists can take U.S. 191 south to St. Johns and then take U.S. 180 westbound to return to I-40 at Holbrook.

A Chambersburg woman died in a head-on collision along the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 this morning in Southampton Township, Franklin County, state police said. The victim was identified as Ashley D. Brechbiel, 26, no address given, according to police. Troopers said Brechbiel was traveling north on Interstate 81 just after 2 a.m. in her 1993 Dodge Dakota truck, when she left the roadway, crossed the grassy median and entered the southbound lanes near Exit 24, the exit for Route 696.

A 58-year-old man was rushed to the hospital early Tuesday morning after the tractor-trailer truck he was driving overturned on Route 58, city officials said.

Police and firefighters responded at after 4 a.m. to the accident in the 3200 block of Holland Road, also known as westbound Route 58.

Firefighters had to extricate the driver from the 18-wheeler truck, police said. He was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A woman and her small daughter died Tuesday when their SUV smashed into the back of a grocery store delivery truck on north Interstate 5 south of the Orange County line. Many drivers who witnessed the crash or saw the wreckage right after were distraught, one woman posted on Twitter. Northbound traffic was halted for nearly an hour. Even after two lanes opened, the backup worsened and extended as far south as Oceanside Boulevard.

An Illinois man was killed late Thursday when the car he was driving was struck by a semi tractor on I-70 about three miles west of the Cambridge City exit.

Indiana State Police and emergency crews were at the scene several hours investigating the crash and removing vehicles.

Investigators say 22-year-old Boota Singh of Sacramento, Calif. was driving his semi westbound in the right lane when the driver of a car lost control.

Moderate snow was falling at the time and road conditions were snow covered and slick.

A man was killed in a collision in southwest Oklahoma City in dense fog Tuesday, police said.

A tractor-trailer and a car collided about 7:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of S Portland Ave., police said.

A crash on westbound Interstate 540 in Raleigh Monday morning sent two drivers to a local hospital and backed up traffic for more than 10 miles during the morning commute.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the crash happened about 6:30 a.m. near the Leesville Road exit when the driver of a pickup truck hit a Dodge Challenger, causing it to sideswipe a tractor-trailer.

A Toyota Prius then hit the rear of the tractor-trailer, which had stopped in a lane of travel and had its hazard lights on.

Six elementary-age children were taken to a hospital as a precaution, after a semi-tractor trailer truck hit a school bus in southwest suburban Stickney on Friday. Stickney police said the call about the crash came in around 7:20 a.m., after a semi and a school bus collided at Pershing Road and Central Avenue. Six students who were on the bus were taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, but a hospital representative said the children seemed to be fine. She said all of the students appeared to be elementary school age, and were deaf, but she did not know what school they attend.
