A man, 20, was airlifted to University Hospital after a crash that shut down the eastbound lanes of Loop 1604 on Monday before 11:30 a.m.

The man was driving a black 2006 Jaguar onto U.S. 281 Northbound from the Gold Canyon access road, according to police. He was trying to pass a tractor-trailer driven by a 26-year-old man, according to police.

The tractor-trailer hit the Jaguar on the rear quarter panel, causing it to shoot across and hit a guardrail, according to police. The Jaguar then bounced off the guardrail, got caught on the rear tires of another vehicle and was dragged several hundred feet, according to police.

The man's name was not released but his injuries were described as life-threatening.
