A portion of Lakeway Drive was closed early Thursday morning, April 17, after a woman crashed her SUV into a power pole, according to the Bellingham Police Department. Police believe Tawny Lesha Julius, 22, was intoxicated when she crashed her 2002 Cadillac Escalade into a power pole near Lisa Lane just before 2 a.m., causing the pole to buckle and collapse onto her car, police spokesman Bob Vander Yacht said. Puget Sound Energy had to respond to the crash scene, where wires were dangling over the road, and traffic had to be rerouted.

The bus carrying the 33-member team was involved in a traffic crash at the intersection of Apalachee Parkway and Connor Boulevard, less than six miles from Florida High, around 2:30 a.m. William R. Fowler II, 65, the driver of the bus, was killed in the accident after the bus veered off the road after an initial impact with another car, according to the Leon County Sheriff's Office.

A five-year-old boy died after Louisville Metro Police say a hit-and-run driver drove his minivan onto the sidewalk and struck the child as he rode his scooter in a yard. Authorities say the child was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police arrested a suspect, Edward Pearce, age 24, on Skyline Drive, near his home, a short time later. Pearce is charged with murder, DUI, fleeing and evading, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.

A pedestrian died after he was hit by a car in a Puyallup crosswalk Thursday. Officials have identified the man as Christopher Kerns, 42. from Federal Way. It appeared the driver failed to stop at a red light about 7 p.m. on River Road while heading south on North Meridian, hitting an employee of a nearby Ford dealership in the crosswalk. It looked like the Lexus traveled a “considerable distance” down the road with the pedestrian on the hood of the car, jumping up and over a curb, hitting a sign and then four vehicles. Investigators had not yet determined what caused the crash.

A 54-year-old Cheboygan County woman allegedly was driving drunk for a third time when she sideswiped a school bus Wednesday, then left the scene, police said. The woman, of Wolverine, was to be arraigned Thursday, April 17, in Cheboygan County District Court. Cheboygan County sheriff's deputies said the woman was driving in Wolverine about 3:45 p.m. when she crossed the center line in a curve and hit an oncoming bus carrying special needs children. The crash happened at South Straights Highway and East Main Street in Wolverine. Her car, a PT Cruiser, hit the center of the oncoming bus.

A Cleveland driver suspected of crashing into a pedestrian and then fleeing the scene Monday morning was arrested hours later for driving intoxicated, police said. Travis Clay, 49, was taken into custody about 5 p.m. after being stopped near East 71st Street and Fullerton Avenue. Officials said he was driving a red Nissan Altima that matched the description given to police after a 54-year-old woman was struck about 11:30 a.m. near Broadway and Worley avenues -- a half mile from where Clay would eventually be placed in handcuffs.

A 16-year-old boy was critically injured in a Saturday night crash while riding with a driver arrested for DUI, police said. Will County Sheriff's police said the crash happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Oak Street. According to police reports, a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado crossed into the southbound lane, went into a skid, struck two trees on the passenger side and smashed into a mailbox and boulder on the side of the road. Deputies reportedly found the rear tire on the other side of the street and bottles of beer behind the passenger seat.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Corchado slammed into the rear of another car, causing it to crash into the KinderCare Learning Center on Goldenrod Road. Four-year-old Lily Quintus died in the crash, and more than a dozen others were injured.

A drunk, wrong-way driver did not stop until she caused a head-on collision Thursday morning. The accident occurred at the Downtown Connector ramp to I-20. The driver of the car, Monica Arrington, 38, went to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Arrington was charged with DUI, reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road.

A child has died and his mother was hurt in a hit-and-run collision allegedly caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 in Smyrna on Thursday afternoon. The crash was reported about 1:30 p.m. at mile marker 66, near Sam Ridley Parkway. The child, his mother and his sister were outside their car changing a flat tire when they were struck. The suspected driver, identified as 33-year-old Tina L. Wilson, kept driving in a Chevrolet Cavalier after the collision, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
