A Cleveland driver suspected of crashing into a pedestrian and then fleeing the scene Monday morning was arrested hours later for driving intoxicated, police said. Travis Clay, 49, was taken into custody about 5 p.m. after being stopped near East 71st Street and Fullerton Avenue. Officials said he was driving a red Nissan Altima that matched the description given to police after a 54-year-old woman was struck about 11:30 a.m. near Broadway and Worley avenues -- a half mile from where Clay would eventually be placed in handcuffs. Court records show Clay is charged with driving under the influence. A police spokeswoman said hit-and-run charges are pending. A MetroHealth Medical Center official said Tuesday afternoon that the woman who was struck is in good condition.
