Some high school students were walking home on Quail Drive when a car that a witness claims was going at least 60 mph rounded the corner and struck Phalanda Damus, 17, before proceeding to strike four other teenagers. A witness also said that the front two tires of the car were flat. Eventually the speeding vehicle hit a tree and caught fire, and three people got out and ran away. All of the teenagers were taken to the hospital, treated, and released. Despite search efforts, the suspects have not yet been found; check back for updates.

Northport resident  Kenneth Dewayne Blanchard was walking on Interstate 59 after getting a flat early Thursday morning. He died when he was hit by a tractor-trailer whose driver fled the scene. A child has died and his mother was hurt in a hit-and-run collision allegedly caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 in Smyrna on Thursday afternoon. The crash was reported about 1:30 p.m. at mile marker 66, near Sam Ridley Parkway. The child, his mother and his sister were outside their car changing a flat tire when they were struck. The suspected driver, identified as 33-year-old Tina L. Wilson, kept driving in a Chevrolet Cavalier after the collision, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed one man and critically injured another man as they helped change a tire on a metro Atlanta freeway. DeKalb County police say two women had called the men to help them change the tire when the men were struck by a pickup. It happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on westbound Interstate 20, near Panola Road. Police said a pickup truck they said was not maintaining its lane struck the men and kept driving. A second car followed the truck until the driver was pulled over.
