One person was killed in a rollover crash on westbound Interstate 435 at State Line Sunday night. The vehicle rolled down an embankment, causing critical injuries to the victim. Police stated that the victim died at an area hospital. Icy roads may have been a factor, according to authorities. Police are continuing to advise drivers to slow down and use caution after several crashes around the metro over the weekend.

Speed and weather appeared to play a role in a crash that left five teenage girls injured -- two of them critically-- in Orange County late Saturday, officials said. Authorities responded just before 11 p.m. when a 2006 Mercury C230 hit a curb, went up an embankment and struck a tree on Melinda Road in Rancho Santa Margarita, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Orange County Fire Authority. Preliminary investigation shows that slick weather and high speed may have contributed to the crash, officials said.

An Oregon State Police trooper was injured Friday night when his patrol car was rear-ended as he was wrapping up a traffic stop on Oregon 34 east of Corvallis. Just after 8 p.m., Trooper Don Rummer was finishing a traffic stop and got back into his patrol car when he saw a car coming from behind lose control on the snow- and ice-covered roadway. The car crashed into the back of the stopped patrol car.

In Walker County, a Hamilton woman was killed. Troopers said 71-year-old Mable Criddle was a passenger in a vehicle that also lost control on a wet road, overturned and struck a tree. That accident happened at 2:35 p.m. on Alabama 5, one mile north of Jasper. Criddle was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, troopers said

Authorities say two people are dead after a minivan crashed and burned along an icy southwestern Michigan roadway. The crash happened about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in Kalamazoo County's Oshtemo Township. The National Weather Service says the bad weather brought down a power line in Kailua. It happened around 9:30 Sunday morning and a young man was injured. The 22-year-old saw his van on fire and tried to put the fire out. That's when trouble began. The quiet of a Sunday morning on Ohana Avenue was shattered when residents heard a loud explosion. A power line split both ends of the live wire which caused considerable damage. Fortunately, he was not. The young man was taken to Castle Medical Center in critical condition and was later transferred to Queen's.

One person has died and eight people were injured in a series of accidents just west of Spokane this morning. The accidents have blocked Interstate 90 eastbound, and westbound traffic is moving stop-and-go. The accidents appear to have been caused by icy conditions on the road and drivers traveling too fast for the conditions. A pickup truck lost control near the overpass crossing West Medical Lake 4 Lakes Road. The pickup crossed the median and headed into oncoming traffic.

Zack Davis, 18 years old, passed away Monday night. He was involved in a 6 car accident on the interchange between Highway 16 and I-5. The road was icy at the time. Mr. Davis's car was rear-ended while he was still in his car. The driver of that car will be cited. What money damages are recoverable in a death claim? Every death from an accident is tragic. Gurnee police are asking for the public's help finding a vehicle that is thought to have hit and killed a man and injured his dog in the Lake County suburb early this morning. The victim, identified as Timothy Fleming, 31, was found about 3:45 a.m. near the southbound entrance ramp to Skokie Highway/U.S. Route 41 from Washington Street in Gurnee after someone called police to say a man was down in that area, police said. Officers who arrived on-scene found Fleming lying unresponsive, next to an injured dog, police said in a news release. Paramedics found no signs of life.

The driver of a pickup truck was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer in heavy fog on State Route 548 early Tuesday when he plowed head-on into an oncoming car, killing himself and the 18-year-old woman driving the car, the Washington State Patrol said. The pickup truck was being driven by Wesley B. Martin, 39, of Gautier, Miss.  He was dead at the scene, the State Patrol said. Martin was driving eastbound on SR 548 east of Kickerville Road when he attempted to pass a semi in heavy fog, the State Patrol said.
