An early morning crash on I-77 southbound caused by a wrong-way driver claimed a life and closed a large section of the Interstate for hours Wednesday. Police said a driver entered the freeway, possibly from Fleet Avenue, going the wrong way and collided with another vehicle. Jack W. Dixon, age 48 and of Eastlake was driving the car that was struck and was pronounced dead on the scene, Cleveland Police said.

A wrong-way accident on the Highway 65 bypass claimed the life of one person and injured another Thursday morning. The accident happened around 8:45 a.m. near the Vandalia Road interchange in Pleasant Hill. Officials say 20-year-old Austin Ruppert of Carlisle driving southbound in the northbound lane when he realized the mistake and tried to get into the correct lane. While trying to maneuver the car it was T-boned by a vehicle heading northbound.

A 32-year-old woman is facing charges after police say she drove the wrong way down a Long Island street and struck another vehicle, killing a passenger in that car, and then fled the scene. The incident happened just after 4:40 a.m. Monday on Greenwich Avenue in Hempstead. According to detectives, Gregoria Canales-Bonilla was operating a 2000 Ford Explorer when she crossed over the double yellow line, striking a 2008 Ford. A 24-year-old male passenger in the backseat suffered fatal injuries as a result of the accident.

A man riding a mini-bike the wrong way on a one-way street Sunday afternoon slammed into a car at an intersection, knocking out several of his teeth and causing critical head injuries, police said. The man, who turned 21 Monday, was not wearing a helmet during the 1:58 p.m. crash at East 25th Street and Chestnut Avenue, according to police.

The family of a taxi driver killed in a hit-and-run on a local freeway mourns his loss, as investigators work to determine what happened. The California Highway Patrol reported that cab driver, identified by family 42-year-old Anteneh Minassie, was on Interstate 5 heading south between Old Town Avenue and Washington Street when a wrong-way driver came toward him heading north just before 2:30 a.m. Minassie was thrown from his car, but CHP reported he died when he was run over on the interstate by multiple vehicles.

One driver is dead and another driver is in critical condition after a head-on collision in Pleasure Ridge Park early Saturday morning. According to police, just after 2:30 a.m., a 31-year-old man driving a SUV on the wrong side of the Greenbelt Highway hit another SUV driven by a 17-year-old woman, later identified as Elissa Greenwell, heading south near the intersection with Greenwood Road. A spokeswoman for the Louisville Metro Police Department, said both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles by Louisville Metro EMS and the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Department.

A motorcyclist crashed after a high speed chase with authorities in East Alabama, according to the Lee County sheriff. Officials say the chase began when the motorcyclist was speeding and deputies attempted to pull him over at the intersection of Lee Road 212 and Lee Road 240 in Lee County. Officials say the man, later identified as Travis Cooley, 23, then sped off in the wrong direction on Highway 431. The chase ended in a crash at Knowles Road and 5th Street in Russell County. The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Three people sustained serious injuries after a crash in Clay County, where the Florida High Patrol said one driver was traveling on the wrong side of the road. According to an FHP report, the crash happened Wednesday around 9:45 p.m.

A 32-year-old man was in critical condition after his car overturned in Bushwick early Wednesday morning, police said. The man was driving the wrong way, northbound, on Central Ave. at 4:38 a.m. when he attempted to make a hard left turn onto George St., police said. The driver, who police did not immediately identify, was thrown from his silver Mazda as the car flipped onto its side, police said. "He was lying on the ground, they were doing CPR a witness said. They were working on him for a long time. He was shaking and not moving besides that."

Ford was killed late Tuesday when his Ford Mustang was struck head-on by a driver traveling the wrong direction on U.S. 131. Ford was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the vehicle that struck him, 29-year-old Jeremy Smeltzer, of Portage, was air-lifted from the crash site to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo where he later died. The lone passenger in Ford’s vehicle during the night of the crash, Megan Covey, 26, of Wayland, is currently in “good” condition, according to Bronson Methodist Hospital.
