The Cherokee County coroner says a 73-year-old Gaffney woman injured in a single motor vehicle collision last week has passed away.

The coroner identified the victim as Rachel Lail Smith.

According to the coroner, Smith was injured on the morning of April 17 when the SUV she was driving ran off the road and struck an embankment.

Smith was transported to Novant Health Gaffney Medical Center following the collision and later transferred to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

A 23-year-old man has died after crashing his motorcycle on a Greensboro freeway.

Lawrence Earl Moore of Greensboro died following a crash Thursday night on Interstate 840 near West Friendly Avenue and PTI Airport. Greensboro police announced Moore's death Tuesday morning.

Moore was heading northbound when he lost control of his motorcycle, slid off the road and hit a guardrail, police said.

Moore was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with critical injuries. He died during surgery, police said

A Louisville man is facing multiple charges after a car accident on Thursday.

According to the police report, Charles Bridges, 69, was traveling south on 7th Street and ran his vehicle in the opposing lane, striking two other vehicles.

When authorities arrived on the scene, Bridges was on the ground outside his vehicle.

Officers observed that Bridges had glassy eyes and extremely slurred speech. He attempted to stand several times but couldn't due to his level of intoxication, police noted in their arrest report.

Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash on Highway 60 East, between 630 East and Grape Hammock Road, in Lake Wales.

The crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. Thursday when a semi-tractor trailer heading eastbound collided with a Mercedes which was heading westbound.

The driver of the Mercedes, an unidentified adult, was deceased on-scene. He or she was the only occupant of the car. Due to the car becoming engulfed in flames, deputies say they are unable to make positive identification.

The semi driver was uninjured.

A 27-year-old Secaucus man was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after firefighters cut him from a wrecked car on Route 287 Thursday, according to authorities.

The motorist was flown to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, where he was in critical but stable condition, state police Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams said Friday.

Police are investigating a crash in Independence that killed an 18-year old and injured five others, including three children.

The collision happened about 4:55 p.m. on Thursday on Stryker Road. A Dodge Durango driven by Colleen Patrick of Salem was headed north when it crashed into the driver's side of a passenger car that pulled out from a parking lot near Stinson Street.

Two Olive Branch police officers are considered heroes Friday morning after jumping into a lake to save a woman and her 7-year-old granddaughter from their sinking van.

Those officers took their oath to protect and serve to a whole new level and because of their quick actions a Mid-South family won't have to deal with tragedy right before the Easter holiday.

This accident happened in Olive Branch at a lake in the Maywood subdivision near Maywood Drive and Cedar Hill Lane around 10:15 Thursday night.

Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested a woman after she drove while intoxicated with a 4-year-old girl in the vehicle.

According to the arrest report, officers were called to the corner of New Cut Road and Southside Drive Thursday just before 4 p.m. after an accident took place there.

Police say when they arrived, they found the driver of a blue van, 35-year-old Amy Longaker, outside of the vehicle, having a difficult time standing up.

Suffolk County Police are investigating a car crash that killed a pedestrian Thursday evening in Halesite.

Jose Lucero, 28, was walking northbound in the traffic lane on New York Avenue when he was struck by a 2013 Honda Accord, driven by Frances Reynoso, who was also traveling northbound on New York Avenue at 9:35 p.m.

Lucero, of New York Avenue, Halesite, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Reynoso, 21, of Halesite, was not injured.

A motorcyclist who lost control of his vehicle as he was entering Interstate 690 was seriously injured late Thursday night.

The crash occurred near the Bear Street on-ramp at around 11:55 p.m., police said.

A 38-year-old male, later identified as Richard Warren, was driving a 2001 Suzuki when he struck a guide rail on the entrance ramp and was ejected from the vehicle.

He was transported to Upstate University Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. No tickets have been issued.
