A two-car accident in the eastbound lane near Wendy’s Restaurant closed Tilton Road Monday afternoon, April 21, and sent one person to the hospital.

The Northfield Police Department responded to a report of a crash on Tilton Road adjacent to the Wendy’s Restaurant and the Mainland Professional Plaza in the 700/800 block.

The victim of a fatal crash between a pickup and cement truck Monday afternoon has been identified as a Sullivan County man.

Jerry L. Dugger, 49, 160 Carr Hollow Road, Bluff City, died when a cement truck crashed into his pickup after Dugger pulled his 2009 Nissan Frontier out in front of it, according to a press release issued by Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal.

The Clay County Prosecutor’s Office charged a 20-year-old man with involuntary manslaughter in the death of a husband and father, whom they say he crashed into head-on Monday afternoon while speeding and drunk.

According to the probable cause statement, Joseph C. Surratt, 20, of Lee’s Summit, told a detective he doesn’t know why he was driving his 1994 Pontiac Sunbird so fast when he lost control at 102nd and Woodland at about 2:15 p.m. Monday in the Northland.

A 66-year-old Joliet woman was killed in a head-on collision in Kendall County on Monday.

State police said Tuesday that they could not release the name of the woman killed in the accident.

But the driver of the other vehicle, Susan A. Bedenk, 56, of Serena was charged with driving under the influence, police said.

The accident happened at 2:51 p.m. at U.S. Route 52 and Brisbin Road.

Bedenk was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro. Her car collided with a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado.

A 76-year-old man was killed Monday morning in a crash involving a semi on Clint Moore Road between East Rogers Circle and West Rogers Circle, according to Boca Raton police.

The victim was identified as Irving M. Mangel of Boca Raton.

At about 6:08 a.m., investigators said the driver of the tractor-trailer, Johnny Ray Arden, 69, of Kingston, Tenn.,was traveling east on Clint Moore Road and was attempting a u-turn.

Mangel was a driving a 2014 Hyundai Equis west on Clint Moore Road when he collided with the trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A child, four teens and two adults were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening at the intersection of North U.S. Highway 1 and Tequesta Drive in Tequesta, said Sgt. Max Lally, spokesman for Tequesta Police Department.

A vehicle traveling north on U.S. Highway 1 attempted to make a left turn unto Tequesta Drive, cutting in front of a vehicle traveling south on U.S. Highway 1. The occupants of both vehicles were injured; the ones traveling on the southbound vehicle sustained more severe injuries, Lally said.

State Police confirmed one person was killed in a fiery crash on the Zakim Bridge Monday morning.

Officials said that a Malden taxi cab stopped in the right travel lane going northbound before it was struck from the back by a tractor trailer. State Police said it appeared that the taxi cab had broken down.

Firefighters rushed to help, but the fire proved too intense. By the time the vehicles were towed away, neither were recognizable. Both burned down to the metal.

The taxi driver, Debra Sarno, 54, of Chelsea was pronounced dead at the scene.

An 18-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a motorist who fled the scene in Delaware County.

It happened at 10:50 p.m. Monday on Chester Pike at Sellers Avenue in Ridley Park.

Police say 18-year-old Christopher Brooks of Crum Creek Drive in Woodlyn was either riding his bicycle or walking it across an intersection when he was struck by a gray or silver pickup truck.

Brooks was not wearing a helmet and suffered head injuries and a broken leg.

Medics rushed him Crozer Chester Medical Center in critical condition.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s department says 79-year-old Paul Raymond Maddex died Monday after the motorcycle he was riding went off the road and into a ditch on Connoisarally Road in the Town of East Otto.

Sheriff deputies found Maddex unresponsive and not breathing. Medical personnel from the East Otto Fire Department and Rural Metro ambulance performed CPR and transported him to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A teenage boy died and a teen girl was injured in a traffic crash late Monday night near Conroe.

The wreck happened about 10 p.m. on White Oak Orchard near Hilltop Drive, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Troopers said one person was thrown from the car during the wreck.

The Montgomery County Police Reporter says in a story on its website that a 15-year-old boy died at the scene and a 14-year-old girl who was driving the car was injured. She was rushed to Conroe Regional Hospital.
