CLIFTON PARK -- An 18-year-old Shenendehowa student was killed Thursday morning in a one-car crash on Wood Road.

High school senior Hunter Cronin died on his way to school, according to the school district.

Cronin was killed about 7:45 a.m., State Police in Clifton Park said.

State Police have not identified the driver of the car but said the driver was alone in the vehicle when he lost control on a curve. The vehicle went off the side of the road and flipped. Troopers said speeding might have been a factor in the crash.

State police say they're investigating the death of a 24-year-old man who was hit by a train in a rural western New York town.

Troopers say the accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the town of Burns, located in northeastern Allegany County 50 miles south of Rochester.

Police have identified the victim as Aaron Tucker of Swain, near the accident scene.

Tucker was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner. His body was sent to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office in Rochester for an autopsy.

No other details have been released.

A tractor-trailer driver is dead after a fiery crash on Interstate 240 eastbound at Millbranch Road on Thursday night.

The tractor-trailer left the road, hit the ditch and a fence before it burst into flames around 8:45 p.m.

Good Samaritans pulled 37-year-old Jamie Fore from the truck.

The family of an elderly woman seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash want any witnesses to come forward.

The family of Elinor Decann went to a scrap yard to see her car on Friday night.

“It’s very hard to look at it,” said Kim Roder, Decann's niece. “All I want is the driver of the truck to come forward.”

A 57-year-old Rhode Island man was killed in a two-car crash on Route 9 in Hadley Thursday morning.

Joseph A. Arruda, of Bristol, R.I., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred near the Shell gasoline station at 73 Russell St. about 9:40 a.m., according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

Arruda was westbound in a Mercedes sedan when his vehicle apparently crossed the double-yellow center line and struck the back driver’s side of a Honda sport utility vehicle driven by a Hadley man, according to the district attorney’s office.

A man from northwest suburban Mundelein was found dead along Route 83 Thursday evening after a possible hit-and-run crash, police said.

Thursday afternoon, police began conducting a missing person investigation after a 40-year-old man did not return home Wednesday night, police said.

Police identified the man as Carl H. Roderwald, 40, of Mundelein.

Officers located the man’s cell phone near the intersection of routes 83 and 176.

Roderwald and his damaged bicycle were found in tall grass along Route 83, just north of McRae Lane.

A driver was ambushed inside a vehicle Thursday morning by his passenger's husband and was later struck and killed by a car in New Smyrna Beach, according to police. New Smyrna Beach police said Darrell Fitzwater, 38, and his girlfriend, Donna Lynam, were driving westbound on State Road 44 at 6 a.m. when Lynam's husband, Donald, came out of hiding from the back of the van and attacked Fitzwater. Fitzwater stopped on State Road 44 and continued fighting with Donald Lynam. Lynam then pushed his wife back into the van and began driving eastbound, leaving Fitzwater on S.R.

A tractor-trailer driver is dead after a fiery crash on Interstate 240 eastbound at Millbranch Road on Thursday night.

The tractor-trailer overturned and burst into flames around 9:45 p.m.

Crews pulled the driver from the truck. He was sent in extremely critical condition to the Regional Medical Center, where he died.

The driver's name hasn't been released but WMC Action News 5 has found that he is from Memphis, worked for J and J Waste and was hauling paper when the crash happened.

Phoenix police say a woman whose body was found in a street early Thursday morning was killed in a hit-and-run collision.

The body of 49-year-old Patricia Anne Herrera was found in the road at 28th Avenue and Thomas Road by a citizen about 2 a.m., said Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.

Martos said police determined it was a hit-and-run from the trauma to the body and evidence at the scene and on her body.

Martos said the vehicle involved might be maroon in color. There was no other information about the vehicle or a suspect.

A two-vehicle crash has blocked U.S. Highway 17-92 near Interstate 4 in Sanford.

The Florida Highway Patrol says three people were injured in the crash, which happened around 8 a.m.

According to the FHP, officials at the scene said one victim was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando and the others were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Details about the crash were not immediately known.
