Police ask for help identifying hit and run truck in accident that injured Elinor Decann, 78, on May 22 on Route 104 between State Street and Maple Avenue in Sodus.
Plea from family of hit and run victim
The family of an elderly woman seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash want any witnesses to come forward.
The family of Elinor Decann went to a scrap yard to see her car on Friday night.
“It’s very hard to look at it,” said Kim Roder, Decann's niece. “All I want is the driver of the truck to come forward.”
A tractor trailer crashed into the small sedan just after 7 a.m. on Thursday on Route 104, it happened between State Street and Maple Avenue in the Town of Sodus. The impact left the driver’s side of Decann's vehicle smashed from the front bumper to the very back of the car. The tractor trailer driver never stopped.
“I’m very angry and the rest of the family is too,” said Roder, “I want to know why the driver of that truck did not stop, and just left my aunt in the middle of the road.”
Family members say Decann, 78, almost didn't survive the crash. Paramedics transferred her to Strong Memorial Hospital's intensive care unit, treated for internal bleeding and several broken bones.
