Four people died and two were injured, one critically, in a Friday afternoon head-on collision on La. 13 in Acadia Parish, State Police said.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. just south of Eunice when a 2005 Honda Civic headed north crossed the highway’s center line, for reasons still under investigation, and struck a southbound 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons, a State Police spokesman, said in a news release.

WHITE CASTLE — A 20-year-old Donaldsonville man police suspect was speeding was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning, Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer said .

Jye J. Mitchell was traveling northbound along La. 1, south of La. 995 in Iberville Parish, around 8:30 a.m. Friday when his car veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole, Sandifer said in a news release.

It’s unknown why Mitchell’s vehicle ran off the road but police think excessive speed was a factor, Sandifer said. Investigators suspect Mitchell wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, Sandifer said.

A fifth person has died of injuries suffered in a head-on collision Friday in Acadia Parish, State Police said Saturday. Joshua Lejeune, 24, Port Barre, died at a local hospital, Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons said. Also Saturday, State Police identified two other people who died in the wreck as a mother and son. They are Laura Bartram, 44, and her 23-year-old son, Justin, both of Opelousas, Hammons said in a news release.

Two days after state police say Tyler Dufrene, 17, was critically injured in a crash in Lafourche Parish just north of the Valentine Bridge on LA 1, the teen remains on life support.

State police say Duffer was driving south when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction crossed the center-line, striking Dufrene's jeep head-on.

Two Denham Springs men died late Wednesday in Iberville Parish after the pickup they were traveling in left La. 1148, hit a tree and caught on fire, State Police announced.

The driver, 53-year-old Charles K. Pope, and his 52-year-old passenger, Maurice A. Cormier, both died at the scene.

The initial investigation, which began shortly before 9:15 p.m., determined the men were traveling westbound when for unknown reasons the 2004 Ford left the roadway to the right west of La. 1. After hitting the tree, the pickup reentered the highway and ignited.

An 11-year-old Baton Rouge girl was thrown from a car early Tuesday along La. 1 in Lafourche Parish and killed, Louisiana State Police reported.

The girl was riding in a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer that went off the road and rolled over after the driver lost control about 9 a.m., troopers said in a news release Tuesday.

The girl, who was not identified, was not wearing her seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office, troopers said.

A 48-year-old Holden man died early Monday after a crash on La. 22, east of La. 937 near the Diversion Canal in Ascension Parish, State Police said.

Lawrence M. Lambert wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries, Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said in a press release.

Two people were killed early Tuesday morning when their car ran off the road and into a nearby bayou on U.S. Highway 61 in St. James Parish, according to the Louisiana State Police. Matthew P. Daigle, of Lutcher, 48, and Terri R. Deslatte, 54, of Hester, died in the wreck, Trooper Jared L. Sandifer said in a news release. At just after 1:30 a.m., a witness called 911 to report that a car ran off the road.

New Orleans police said a 6-year-old child was killed in a fatal crash on Interstate 10 at the Morrison Avenue exit in New Orleans East.

According to police, a vehicle overturned at the exit about 12 p.m. All lanes on the road were closed. The roads reopened about 2 p.m.

According to police, a 36-year-old woman was traveling westbound on the interstate in a Chevrolet Suburban. After passing the Morrison Road exit, she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn multiple times.

A 60-year-old Waggaman's man was killed Friday evening in St. Charles Parish after authorities say his motorcycle collided with an 18-wheeler on River Road near Airport Lane.

According to the Louisiana State Police, William Ziebel apparently crossed the center lane as he was traveling west on River Road shortly after 5 p.m. and struck the front of a 2012 Freightliner driven by Russell Mason, 61, of Marrero.

Ziebel was critically injured and was transported to St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
