Tyler Dufrene, 17, critically injured in crash with Michael Costello, 20, on May 29.
Teen on life support following crash involving suspected drunk driver
Two days after state police say Tyler Dufrene, 17, was critically injured in a crash in Lafourche Parish just north of the Valentine Bridge on LA 1, the teen remains on life support.
State police say Duffer was driving south when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction crossed the center-line, striking Dufrene's jeep head-on.
Authorities arrested, Michael Costello, 20, and booked him on first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to drive on right side of road. Police say Costello, who bonded out of jail, is facing additional charges.
Dufrene was injured just hours after graduating from Central Lafourche High School and was set to join the Army in August.
"He is just an amazing guy, a loving friend, and the best brother you could ask for," said Hilary Yates.
Yates is one of Dufrene's three sisters.
"It's just been a nightmare that we never wake up from," said Reba Yates.
They say their brother has no brain activity, and contrary to earlier reports he had passed, the family is holding out for a miracle he can beat the odds.
