Jawana White, 6, killed, multiple people injured in car crash on Interstate 10 on May 19.

New Orleans police said a 6-year-old child was killed in a fatal crash on Interstate 10 at the Morrison Avenue exit in New Orleans East.

According to police, a vehicle overturned at the exit about 12 p.m. All lanes on the road were closed. The roads reopened about 2 p.m.

According to police, a 36-year-old woman was traveling westbound on the interstate in a Chevrolet Suburban. After passing the Morrison Road exit, she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn multiple times.

Police said the 6-year-old child was ejected from the vehicle and died en route to the hospital.

The vehicle was also occupied with three other girls, ages 6, 9, and 10-years-old, police said.

The woman was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The three girls were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Charges against the driver are pending.
