At about 1:00pm, Johnson was driving on Illinois 164 when she crossed into the oncoming lane for reasons unknown, and ended up striking a car driven by a 66-year-old woman who had an 18-month-old baby as a passenger. Both Johnson and the baby were taken to hospitals before being pronounced dead, and the other woman involved was also taken to a hospital but with non-life threatening injuries.

S singlce-car rollover accident occured on I-90, injuring two adults and three children. Their names have not been released. Their injuries were deemed non-life-threatening, but were nonetheless transported to hosptials for treatment of their injuries.

Leslie W. Thurow hit a state trooper during a traffic stop near St. Charles Road. She tried to flee the scene but hit another car and caused it to roll over. In that car was seven family members who all sustained serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals. The family consisted of a 37-year old woman, a 43-year old man, a 3-year old boy, a 73-year old woman, an 83-year old man, an 11-year old girl and a 13-year old boy. Thurow was ordered held on $450,000 bail in bond court Sunday.

Benni Sumner was airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, and Cyril Ward was flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital. Four-year-old Brayden Ward, a passenger in Cyril Ward’s vehicle, was treated and released from Mendota Community Hospital.

The Will County State's Attorney early Tuesday morning approved charges against the driver of a vehicle that struck a 14-year-old girl and drove off. The incident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Monday on South Chicago Street, also known as Route 53, and Pheasant Run Road, in Joliet.

A 16-year-old boy was critically injured in a Saturday night crash while riding with a driver arrested for DUI, police said. Will County Sheriff's police said the crash happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Oak Street. According to police reports, a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado crossed into the southbound lane, went into a skid, struck two trees on the passenger side and smashed into a mailbox and boulder on the side of the road. Deputies reportedly found the rear tire on the other side of the street and bottles of beer behind the passenger seat.

A driver who was allegedly drunk and driving the wrong way on Interstate 355 injured multiple people in a crash Monday night. About 8 p.m., the driver was heading south on northbound I-355 lanes near 143rd Street near southwest suburban Lockport when the vehicle struck another head on, Illinois State said. The driver of the second vehicle was taken to a hospital for a broken leg, Pilgrim said. There were also an unspecified number of children in that vehicle with minor injuries, police said.

A school bus swerving to avoid hitting a pair of deer has skidded off a road in rural LaSalle County and tipped onto its side, injuring the driver and two children. Sandwich School District 430 Superintendent said the bus was taking children to Lighted Way, a school for students with special needs in LaSalle. He says the driver swerved to avoid hitting two deer on U.S. Route 52 around 8 a.m. Friday. The bus skidded on loose gravel and toppled onto its side in a ditch.

Eight children and one adult were injured when a Megabus and a day care van collided Wednesday morning on Chicago's south side. Another 28 people declined medical treatment after the 7:30 a.m. crash on Interstate 90/94 -- the Dan Ryan Expressway -- near 51st Street, according to officials from the Chicago Fire Department and the Illinois State Police. Three were taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, three were taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center and two were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, said a fire department spokesman. All the injuries were minor, he said.

Police say a woman was trying to commit suicide by intentionally crashing into two cars Tuesday with her baby strapped into a car seat in her SUV. Elizabeth Kruger, 28, of Evergreen Park is charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery, one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding, one count of leaving the Scene of a personal injury accident, one count of endangering the life of a child and several more traffic offenses. Police say Kruger purposely crashed her BMW SUV into a car at 79th Street and New England in Burbank, and drove away.
