Two people are in critical condition this evening in Rockford hospitals after a head-on accident at Illinois 52 and Cedar Grove Road, south of Sublette near the LaSalle/Lee County Line. The accident was reported at 11:52 a.m. Bennie Sumner, 44, of Mendota, was traveling south on Illinois 52, crossed the center line into northbound traffic and crashed head-on into a van driven by Cyril Ward, 64, of Amboy.
Benni Sumner was airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, and Cyril Ward was flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital. Four-year-old Brayden Ward, a passenger in Cyril Ward’s vehicle, was treated and released from Mendota Community Hospital.
