Five people miraculously escaped with only minor injuries when a city bus slammed into a Hamilton Heights building early Friday after getting into an accident with a minivan, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 7:38 a.m. this morning, Fire Department sources said.

It began when the minivan attempted to cut in front of the bus when the two hit one another, then jumped the curb , an MTA spokesman said. The bus then slammed into 3750 Broadway near W. 155th St.

A crane operator killed in an industrial accident Friday in Ecorse has been identified as a 36-year-old Warren man. Christopher Casto died of multiple injuries sustained in the accident involving a crane at U.S. Steel’s Great Lakes Works. His death was ruled accidental during an autopsy performed Saturday by the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s office, spokeswoman Mary Mazur said today. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration opened an investigation into the death.

Police say the victim of a hit-and-run accident in Clarksville is a teenager. Eighteen-year-old Dashawna Saunders was hit by a car Friday night. A police officer found her laying on Tiny Town Road near Twelve Oaks Boulevard. Police are still looking for the dark colored van or SUV that hit her. They say it should have heavy front-end damage. Saunders is still recovering, but she's no longer in critical condition.

Taft High 7-12 senior Cayden Thomas Fitch, who recently was honored as an Eagle Scout and was bound for the U.S. Navy upon graduation, was killed Friday in a head-on traffic accident on Highway 22 about three miles west of Dallas. According to Oregon State Police (OSP), Fitch, 18, was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup with his passenger/father, Bryan Fitch, 43, an OSP trooper out of Newport Area Command who was off duty when the crash occurred. Cayden Fitch was pronounced dead at the scene. His father was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital with serious injuries.

A China Spring man is dead and four others are injured after a two car crash. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened Friday at 11:42 p.m. A 2005 Mini Cooper collided head-on with a 2011 Chevy HHR, on the southbound frontage road of Highway 6, just south of McLaughlin Rd. The driver of the Mini Cooper, 42-year-old John Bumgardner, failed to yield as the Chevy HHR was legally trying to enter Highway 6, says Wilson. Bumgardner was pronounced dead at the scene.

A LaPlace teenager died in an ATV accident Friday night after he crashed into a parked all-terrain vehicle carrying a pair of youths who had trespassed onto private property north of River Road in Destrehan, authorities said. The impact from the crash caused both the teenager, 15-year-old Trent Torres, and the ATV to be thrown into a wooded area, causing the fatal injuries. Deputies found alcohol and about a dozen teenagers when they arrived at the property owned by BP, after getting a call around 11:49 p.m., said a spokesman for the St. Charles Sheriff's Department.

Police say a 75-year-old woman is dead after a fatal crash car crash in Newark. Newark Police say it happened Friday evening at about 10:15 on Library Avenue just north of Farm Lane. Police say a preliminary investigation found that a 75-year-old Dorothy Hershman of Newark was driving southbound on Library Avenue when for an unknown reason she crossed the road's center line and ran head-on into a car traveling northbound. Hershman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a serious crash on State Road 16 in the area of Lewis Speedway. A spokesman with FHP said two SUVs struck each other head-on around 10 p.m. Friday. Police said an SUV was traveling east on SR-16 at a high speed when it hit a curb, lost control and crossed over into oncoming traffic. Two occupants in that SUV, James Hamlin, 30, and Terresa Tomlinson, 58, were airlifted to UF Health in Jacksonville in serious condition.

Two drivers died when a 91-year-old man driving the wrong way on Interstate 75 near the Florida-Georgia border late Friday night stuck an SUV and a Greyhound bus. Troopers said a 91-year-old driver was diving south in the northbound lanes when they ran head-on into the bus and a Ford Expedition at mile marker 449, about 10 miles south of Jasper in Hamilton County. The car's driver, Ernest Lee Holmes, 91, from High Springs, Florida was killed in the accident, according to the FHP report. Peter Linek, 55, of Ormond Beach, who was driving the SUV also died.

The Marion post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed one person Friday afternoon. According to the highway patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. Friday along state Route 309 near state Route 746 in Marion County. Investigators say that 68-year-old Gayle Callahan, 68, of Crestline was traveling west on S.R. 309 when she drove left of center, striking a tractor-trailer head-on. Callahan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured.
