Two people, including a wrong-way driver, were killed in a head-on collision in Jefferson County on Tuesday. According to police, a driver exited Highway M and got on southbound Highway 21 going north. The driver, identified as 82-year-old Mary Burke, drove the wrong way for several miles before hitting another vehicle at Shady Valley near Imperial around 12:15 p.m. Burke, of St. Louis, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver in the other vehicle, identified as James Sybert, 25, was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Eleven students on the bus were transported to Jewish Hospital South and released after a wreck that occured at about 6:30 a.m. at Preston Highway and Belmont Road just east of Fort Knox. An 86-year-old man drove into the back of a school bus that had stop to pick up students in Bullitt County. The man later died of his injuries. None of the students suffered serious injuries.
A woman was killed this morning when her car veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle on Highway 99 in Lynnwood, police said. The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. in the 17100 block of Highway 99. Police said a woman, later identified as Jeretta C. Graham, 77, was driving south when her car veered into northbound traffic, colliding head-on with a second vehicle. The southbound driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the second driver, a woman in her 40s, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.
