Cleveland-Akron, OHOhio Turnpike officials are stopping drivers from getting on the toll road at several interchanges after a series of pileups shut it down.
The State Highway Patrol says two people died and a trooper was seriously injured in snowy crashes involving at least 50 vehicles on the turnpike.
A turnpike spokesman says they hope to open one eastbound lane of traffic around 6 p.m.
Pileups stretched across a 2-mile section in the eastbound lanes of the toll road Wednesday afternoon between Toledo and Cleveland.
Turnpike spokesman Adam Greenslade says traffic there is backed up just over seven miles.

Austin, TXEleven people were injured after a five-vehicle collision on North Lamar Boulevard at 39 1/2 Street around 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
Several EMS crews responded to the rollover accident. The first reports indicated at least one patient was trapped inside a vehicle.
Additional paramedics responded to 39th Street and Medical Parkway for a report of another patient involved in the accident.

Denver, COA Denver patrol car was hit by another car triggering a 10-car chain-reaction collision on eastbound 6th Avenue near Federal Boulevard early Saturday morning, according to police.
The parked patrol car was struck after it responded to an accident that happened around 7 a.m., said Denver police spokesman.
The police officer was not in the car at the time and was not harmed.
No serious injuries have been reported in any of the accidents.
Jackson said that immediately after the officer's patrol car was hit, another car hit the second vehicle and kept on going.

Indianapolis, INA crash involving three trucks shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Hendricks County Wednesday morning and injured a construction worker.
The crash happened at the 66 mile marker, near State Road 267. Indiana State Police dispatchers said westbound lanes were shut down around 10:10 a.m. They reopened around 11:45 a.m.
ISP officials also said an Indiana Department of Transportation truck was involved in the wreck. The truck was in the area to fill potholes and a worker was hit by a vehicle, suffering minor injuries.

Friday, February 21, 2014A multiple car crash on I-95 Saturday night in Delray Beach injured six people, four of whom were hurt seriously enough to go to the hospital, and was followed almost immediately by a second crash that had rescuers returning to the scene. Two people were injured in the second crash and taken to the hospital in stable condition. According to Delray Beach Fire Rescue, the first crash happened at 11:11 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Linton Boulevard.

Dallas-Ft. Worth, TXA chain-reaction crash over a North Texas lake involving as many as 15 vehicles is expected to keep Interstate 30 over Lake Ray Hubbard closed well into Friday afternoon.
Texas Department of Transportation officials said multiple vehicles were involved in the crash on the I-30 bridge over the lake, prompting the closure of both directions of the highway at Dalrock Road.
Police reports indicate 23-year-old Christopher Anthony Sosa was charged with intoxication assault for his involvement in the crash.

Trenton-NJBlack ice was to blame in a seven-car pileup involving a police car on an elevated highway in northeast New Jersey Sunday, police say, but no one sustained serious injuries in the wreck.
A car headed east on New Jersey Route 4 near Paramus Road in Fair Lawn hit a patch of black ice about 9 p.m., overturned and hit an exit ramp, police say.
Shortly after, a Bergen County police officer tried to stop to help, but also hit the patch of ice and crashed.

Thursday, December 26, 2013A man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Santa Rosa Friday evening after allegedly causing a five-car crash that left three people injured, police said Saturday.
Police said the collision occurred around 5:15 p.m., when a Toyota Tacoma speeding down Hoen Avenue toward Yulupa Avenue rear-ended a car stopped at a red light.
The force of the crash caused three more cars stopped at the light to collide, causing major damage to each of the cars and leaving three drivers with minor injuries, police said.
One of the drivers was taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Philadelphia, PANewark Police are investigating a serious six-car crash that left an eight-month-old girl hospitalized in critical condition Thursday.
It happened around 11 a.m. on Capital Trail at the Windy Hills Bridge.
Police say a southbound Dodge Neon operated by a 36-year-old woman, with two small children inside, slid on the icy roadway and into the path of a northbound Honda Accord, operated by a 75-year-old man with a 75-year-old female passenger. The Neon was struck on the passenger side by the front of the Accord.

St. Louis, MOOne person was arrested after a multi-vehicle wreck shut down Interstate 270 for several hours in north St. Louis County late Tuesday night. The wreck happened on I-270 at Route 370 in Bridgeton around 11:45 p.m. According to police, Javier Hernandez was driving eastbound when he lost control of his 2001 Grand Prix and struck a 2000 Ford Explorer, causing it to roll over. Hernandez was taken into custody and later charged with driving while intoxicated and 2nd-degree felony assault. The driver of the Explorer suffered minor injuries.
