Thomas J. Overbeck of Deiterich was killed when his car crossed into oncoming traffic on Illinois 33 and was hit by a semi driven by Jerry Cross, 48, of Willow Hill. Cross swerved but was unable to avoid hitting Overbeck's vehicle, and Overbeck died at the scene. Cross was minorly injured but declined treatement, and no citations were issued.
A 25-year-old New Athens man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle accident early Sunday morning. According to the coroner’s office, McGovern was not wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at 5:06 a.m.
Alexis D'Amico, of Grantfork, a junior at Highland High School, was killed in a single-vehicle crash. She was driving the 1994 Chevrolet Corvette at a high rate of speed at about 7:30 p.m. Friday on Michael Road when it left the roadway and rolled before coming to a stop in a field. The car's passenger suffered potentially serious injuries but was at home and expected to make a full recovery.
The Illinois State Police are asking the public for help in finding a hit-and-run semi driver accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal crash on Interstate 70 near Troy.
Westbound Interstate 70 was closed Wednesday morning in the aftermath of the accident. As of 8 a.m. accident investigators were reconstructing the crash and Illinois State Police spokesman Calvin Dye Jr. said authorities were unsure when it would reopen.

According to authorities, an Impala was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 when the driver lost control and swerved to the right then the left before being hit by a semi-truck. The semi-truck left the scene without stopping.
After the first semi-truck hit the Impala, a second semi-truck which was carrying corn hit the car. After the second collision, the Impala went into a ravine while the semi-truck rolled over and was facing the wrong way.
Police are investigating the death of a woman from Cahokia after she crashed her vehicle Saturday afternoon. Authorities say Brittany Allred, 25, was driving northbound on North Liberty Road in Jarvis Township near Troy, Illinois when her Ford Explorer veered off the road and hit an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over multiple times. Police have not determined how Allred lost control of her vehicle, but they do say she was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She suffered blunt force trauma to her head, chest, and abdomen.
The ARCH helicopter was called to airlift a victim after a train collided with a truck in the Metro East early Sunday morning.
The collision happened at 201 East Chain of Rocks Road in Madison County around 5:00 a.m.
The victim had to be pulled from the vehicle before being transported by the helicopter to an area hospital. The victim’s condition is unknown.
The cause of the accident is unknown.

A multi-car accident involving a semi-truck has killed a woman and shut down all lanes of Illinois Highway 140, just north of Edwardsville.
The accident happened after 10 a.m. on Highway 140 between Highway 159 and St. James Drive with the truck ending on top of one of the cars.
A dump truck, which was traveling westbound on 6656 Illinois Route 140, lost his tailgate in the road, according to Illinois State Police. The semi-truck driver ran over the tailgate, lost control and rolled on top of a Ford SUV.
