A 80-year-old crossing guard was hit while helping children cross a road in Orem on Wednesday.
The accident happened around 7:30am when a 48-year-old man driving a minivan hit the guard at 1035 North 800 East in Orem.
The guard was wearing his reflective vest and had his stop sign raised. He sustained neck injures but is expected to be okay.
The minivan had damage to the windshield and the driver was cited for failing to yield and not having insurance.
A man died in an auto-pedestrian accident in Tooele Monday morning.
Tooele police Capt. Paul Wimmer said 41-year-old man was walking along the shoulder near Highway 112 and Industrial Loop Road about 7 a.m. when he was struck from behind by a car.
Wimmer said witnesses told officers that the man had been walking on or along the white line, dangerously close to the travel lanes, just prior to being hit.
He was dead at the scene, Wimmer said.
A 35-year-old Taylorsville man remained in "extremely critical condition" on Wednesday, the day after he was hit by a car while trying to help people involved in an earlier crash.
Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said there had been no change in condition for Anthony Rodriguez, who was hit at 7:38 a.m. Tuesday while walking in the southbound lanes near 5225 South.
Rodriguez, who lives nearby, had just called 911 after witnessing a two-car collision in the intersection at Redwood Road and 5200 South.
The second auto-pedestrian accident within a week has Provo police pleading with both motorists and those on foot to exercise extra care.
Provo police said that a 23-year-old man was struck by a car just before 8 p.m. Thursday when he stepped into the intersection of 200 West and Bulldog Boulevard.
The victim had been standing on the northwest corner of the intersection and then entered a crosswalk southbound when the light turned green.
The vehicle that hit him had just made a right-hand turn and the driver did not see the man walking until it was too late.
A 22-year-old woman was fatally struck by a pickup truck early Tuesday morning as she crossed the intersection of Main Street and Antelope Drive in Layton.
Layton police Lt. Shawn Horton said the incident occurred about 6:30 a.m. Jessica Jones of Layton was walking southbound on the east side of the intersection when she attempted to cross.
A 19-year-old man was fatally struck by a car when he inexplicably walked onto southbound Interstate 15 early Tuesday morning.
A Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. spokesman said 2:42 a.m. accident occurred at 13400 South in Draper.
"[The victim] was wearing dark clothing and not seen by the driver of a 2008 Ford Focus when he stepped onto into the lane from the right [shoulder]," police said.
While the incident remained under investigation, but UHP confirmed that along with other possibilities, it was looking into whether the incident may have been a suicide.
A Friday morning auto-pedestrian accident in West Valley City claimed the life of a 39-year-old man.
The accident occurred about 6:45 a.m. at 2700 West and 4270 South as the victim, who worked at an area grocery store, was crossing east to west.
A southbound compact car, believed to be traveling at 40 mph, struck the victim just as he stepped into traffic, said a WVCPD Lt.
Witnesses, police officers and then paramedics attempted CPR, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene from massive head and chest trauma, Taylor said.
A woman, Rosa Merino, was struck by a pickup truck in a Provo crosswalk Wednesday morning later died from her injuries at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
Provo police said the accident occurred at 6:20 a.m. as the woman was crossing westbound at the intersection of 700 N. University Avenue, about three blocks from Brigham Young University. It was still dark when the 1985 GMC pickup hit her.
