The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a crash that killed a 17-year-old Massillon girl on Friday.
Jamie Lynn DeLeon of Massillon was attempting to cross Lillian Gish boulevard in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Gregg Harris, 50, of Massillon. Gregg was making a right turn when the accident occurred.
Harris was not injured in the crash. Troopers said he was wearing his seatbelt.
DeLeon was transported to Affinity Hospital by the Massillon fire department, where she later died of her injuries.
An 89-year-old man and his wife were hospitalized following a high-speed crash on Route 83 Monday.
North Ridgeville police stated that the 89-year-old man was driving a Buick Lucerne at nearly 100 mph and rear-ended a Mazda CX-5 around 1 p.m.
The Mazda was pushed into a ditch, flipped over and came to a rest near a telephone pole, police said, while the Buick traveled nearly 300 feet before coming to a rest in front of an Avon Beldon Road home.
The front end of the Buick was almost completely destroyed, police said.
A motorcycle rider is behind bars after he crashed his motorcycle on the exit ramp from I-77 north to Mull Avenue around 12:30 Monday morning.
According to Akron police, around midnight officers spotted the man multiple times riding at a high rate of speed in the neighborhoods along Copley Road just east of I-77.
Each time officers tried to stop the man, he would ride off only to slow and wait for them to catch up before taking off again. Police did not pursue the man in the neighborhoods, saying he was going to fast.
Akron Police said a man crashed his car drunk and then hid in a drain pipe in Akron Saturday.
Bradley Zaryki, 45, of Cuyahoga Falls, was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, failure to stop after an accident and failure to control.
Police said they responded to a report of a one-car crash at East Cuyahoga Falls Avenue and Front Street in Akron after a northbound car swerved off the right side of Front Street and drive through a guardrail just south of the Cuyahoga River.
A head-on crash between a car and truck on East Waterloo right by Donzell's Flower and Garden Center in Akron has put three people in the hospital. The crash happened around 11 p.m. on Sunday.
According to Akron police, the driver of a Ford F-250 went left of center while driving eastbound on East Waterloo just before South Arlington. It hit a Hyundai head-on and drove over top of the car before rolling over. The truck came to rest after hitting the Donzell's business sign.
A 40-year-old Macedonia woman died after the car she was driving hit the concrete barrier on an on-ramp to Interstate 271 in Northfield on Friday.
The force of the collision threw the woman from her 1999 Toyota Corolla, said Inspector Bill Holland, of the Summit County sheriff's office. She was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, but was pronounced dead. The woman's name has not been released.
Holland said the woman was northbound on Ohio 8 about 2:30 p.m. when she got on the ramp to the interstate. He said speed was a likely factor in the crash.
An Eastlake woman was arrested after police say she crashed her vehicle into a post office while driving drunk.
A passer-by alerted Willoughby Police around 2:35 a.m. Monday reporting that a vehicle struck Willoughby Post Office on Erie Avenue.
Police said they responded to the scene to find Jamie Capper, 32, sitting in the driver’s side of her white GMC SUV, attempting to restart it. Capper’s vehicle appeared to have struck a pillar connected to the awning of the post office, causing apparent damage.
