A head-on crash between a car and truck on East Waterloo right by Donzell's Flower and Garden Center in Akron has put three people in the hospital. The crash happened around 11 p.m. on Sunday.
According to Akron police, the driver of a Ford F-250 went left of center while driving eastbound on East Waterloo just before South Arlington. It hit a Hyundai head-on and drove over top of the car before rolling over. The truck came to rest after hitting the Donzell's business sign.
Police said the woman driving the Hyundai suffered a concussion but otherwise was alright, considering the amount of damage her car sustained.
Police said the passenger of the truck was partially ejected and had to have his arm amputated. The truck's driver was alert and talking when transported to the hospital.
Police said the truck and an SUV were following each from a benefit dinner and that the SUV was towed from the scene but did not collide with either vehicle.
Police are investigating the claim from witnesses that the SUV and truck were racing at the time of the crash.
Police did say speed was a factor in the crash.
East Waterloo was closed between South Arlington and the driveway to Donzell's Flower and Garden Center.
